Dr. Rawn Boulden is an assistant professor in the School of Counseling and Well-Being at West Virginia University, grant principal investigator, and a fully-certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor. Additionally, he is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and provides outpatient counseling services to children in the Greater Morgantown region. His scholarship focuses primarily on school counseling and counseling youth and adolescents. Before becoming an assistant professor, Dr. Boulden was a school counselor in Virginia. He primarily teaches master’s courses in WVU’s CACREP-accredited counseling program. His research interests include school counseling, students with diverse learning needs, counselor education, rural school communities, school climate, resilience, cultural competence, and psychometric research. Since beginning his academic appointment at WVU in August 2020, Dr. Boulden has secured more than $5.6 million in federal funding as principal investigator addressing youth mental health disparities in West Virginia. Dr. Boulden also provides professional development to school districts in West Virginia and throughout the United States, and frequently presents at national and state-level conferences. He earned his master's in school counseling from the University of Maryland-College Park, and his PhD in counselor education and supervision from Old Dominion University.
